Abstract

ABSTRACT
Objective: to see the effects of macrosomia on mode of delivery both in multigravida and primigravida.
Patients & Methods: Prospective cohort study, conducted from 1st January 2016 to 31st June 2017. At Medical and
Teaching Institute, Hayatabad Medical Complex, Gynae and Obstetrics C Unit. Total 2781 deliveries were collected on
a preformed Proforma. After Exclusion Total Patients Were 2605, among those 309 were macrocosmic deliveries with
birth weight > or =4000g and 2296 were non macrosomic deliveries with estimated birth weight < or =3900g. The
exclusion criteria were gestational age < 28 weeks, multiple pregnancies, previous history of cesarean-section, ante
partum hemorrhage and cephalopelvic disproportation. The birth weight of every singleton case baby was noted in
grams just after the mode of delivery of each mother; percentage of each group was calculated in macrosomic and
non macrosomic group. Chi square test applied to derived P value for difference in each group results.
Results: The occurrence of macrosomia was11.86 %. Delivery of macrosomic group has more chances of instrumentation
in the form of operative delivery, forceps delivery, and vaccume vaginal delivery. The occurrence of spontaneous
vaginal delivery was more common in non macrosomic group.
Conclusion: Operative deliveries were more common among macrosomic group, although statistically not significant.
