OPEN TRANSVESICAL REPAIR OF VESICOVAGINAL FISTULA-OUR EXPERIENCE OF 30 CASES
Aims and Objectives: To describe our experience of Open Transvesical Repair of Vesicovaginal Fistula in terms of
efficacy and post-operative outcome.
Methodology: This is a prospective study and records of 30 women were assessed from January 2016 to January
2017. Out of these 30 patients, 25 were post hysterectomy, 4 were post c-section and 01 patient presented after forceps
vaginal delivery. Two patients had recurrent VVF. Mean (SD) age was 35.8 (9) years. The mean duration of VVF
was 3 months ranging from 4 weeks to 19 years. All patients underwent open transvesical repair of VVF. Two patients
required unilateral ureteric reimplantation. All patients were reviewed at six and twelve weeks duration post operatively
Results: Repair of vesico-vaginal fistulas was successful in all the cases, with no post-operative morbidity or complications.
Conclusions: We conclude that open trans-vesical repair of VVF is an effective and safe method.
