EFFECTS OF PLATELETS RICH PLASMA INJECTION ON PAIN RELIEF IN TREATMENT OF PLANTAR FASCIITIS IN TERTIARY CARE HOSPITAL

Abstract

Objectives: To study the effects of PRP injection on pain relief of Plantar Fasciitis

Methods: This descriptive case-series study was conducted in the Orthopedic and Trauma department, Ghurki Trust Teaching Hospital Lahore, from 14^th April 2018 to 13^th October 2018. All patients of both gender with plantar fasciitis and aged between 30-60 years were included in the study. patients with history of local steroid injection, previous surgery of foot, fracture to calcaneus and diseases of lower limb like diabetic neuropathy and ankle-joint disorders were excluded. 3 mL of platelet concentrate was injected using a 22-g needle into the plantar fasciitis using a peppering technique after anaesthetizing the area with lignocaine. Numerical rating scale (NRS) was used for pain grading pre-procedure and two weeks after.

Results: Out of 161 patients, 104 (64%) patients were male whereas 57 (35.40%) were female. Mean and Standard Deviation (SD) for Age was 52 Years + 7.89 whereas Mean and SD for Duration of Pain was 3 Weeks + 0.57.

Platelet rich plasma effects on pain was satisfactory i.e., below 4 on NRS scale in 144 (89.44%) patients whereas in 17 (10.55%) patients it was not.

Conclusion: we concluded that PRP therapy has good effects on pain relief in patients with PF.
